Day One: Wellington – Lake Taupo – Rotorua
This morning you will depart Wellington and travel north to Rotorua, initially up the Kapiti Coast on the south-eastern tip of the North Island. Here you will have great views of Cooks Strait, Kapiti Island and, on a clear day, the mountain ranges of the South Island. As you travel further north you will reach the dry arid central plateau which is home of several active volcanoes. The volcanic cone snow-capped mountains form a spectacular backdrop to this barren landscape. At the top of the central plateau you will reach the shores of Lake Taupo and the Taupo Township. Following a brief stop in the township you will continue on through native forest and bushed hills to Rotorua: the geothermal capital of New Zealand.

Tour concludes early afternoon with the remainder of the day at leisure.

From Waitomo, the coach continues through the beautiful Waikato region, the dairy farming capital of New Zealand, and onward to Auckland for a late afternoon arrival.
