This six day independent tour departs Christchurch daily and includes the key tourism destinations of the southern half of the South Island of New Zealand, including Aoraki / Mount Cook, Queenstown, Milford Sound, Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula. The tour includes the nature cruise in Milford Sounds, travel on the Taieri Gorge Railway, a wildlife cruise and guided tour of the Yellow Eyed Penguin reserve plus 5 nights 4 - 4.5 star accommodation , three nights in Queenstown and two nights in Dunedin.

Day One: Christchurch – Mount Cook – Queenstown

Travel by coach, across Canterbury Plains and the MacKenzie Country via Lake Tekapo to Mt Cook National Park. Arriving at the Hermitage Aoraki / Mount Cook early afternoon. Consider a scenic flight over some of the finest alpine scenery. Mid-afternoon continue onto Queenstown, adventure capital of New Zealand, travelling via the Linda’s Pass, Lake Dunstan, Cromwell and the Kawarau Gorge.

Day Two: Milford Sounds Day Excursion

Travel by coach along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau, gateway to the Fiordland National Park. From the Homer Tunnel emerge into the Cleddau Valley. Join your Milford Sound Nature Cruise for an unforgettable experience, and explore the wonder of this majestic fiord before returning to Queenstown.

Day Three: Queenstown

A free day at leisure in Queenstown to explore this beautiful township nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, surrounds by mountains snow-capped for much of the year, or enjoy the activities on offer.

Day Four: Queenstown – Taieri Gorge – Dunedin

This morning travel by road to Pukerangi in the heart of Central Otago, where you will board the Taieri Gorge Train for the remaining journey to Dunedin. The train traverses the Taieri Gorge across wrought iron viaducts and through tunnels carved by hand more than 100 years ago. One of the great historic train journeys.

Day Five: Dunedin and Otago Peninsula

This morning enjoy an entertaining and informative Dunedin city sightseeing tour, which includes Otago University, Botanical Gardens, Historic Buildings, stately homes, together with the world’s steepest street. This afternoon you will tour the Otago Peninsula with a wildlife cruise followed by a guided tour of the Yellow Eyed Penguin Reserve to see the world’s rarest penguin.

Day Six: Dunedin – Christchurch

Returning to Christchurch today by road, initially enjoying some magnificent Pacific Ocean coastline, then travelling via Oamaru and Timaru to Christchurch where your tour will conclude.
