Day One: Auckland – Waitomo Caves – Rotorua
Today depart Auckland for Rotorua travelling south through the rolling hills and pastor land of Waikato. Your first stop is at the mystical world of Waitomo, home to the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. View cave formations, stalactites, and stalagmites by drifting silently in a boat through a Glowworm Cavern lit up with thousands of tiny glowworm lights. Enjoy a delicious picnic lunch whilst traveling through the heart of the Central North Island to Rotorua where huge geysers, bubbling mud pools, and Maori culture await. Here you’ll discover three of Rotorua’s best visitor attractions. First you will gain an insight into New Zealand’s Māori culture at Te Puia and experience Rotorua’s famous geothermal activity with a tour of the Geothermal Valley – a place where mud pools bubble and boil and geysers shoot steam high into the air. Next is Rainbow Springs where you can get up close to all kinds of native flora and fauna including the iconic kiwi, a flightless native bird. Finally stop at the Agrodome, a working organic farm where you can find out all about farming life in New Zealand watch a sheep shearing display and see sheep dogs working the sheep. Your coach will then return your evening accommodation.

Day Two: Rotorua
Today you will visit Hobbiton, the famous Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movie set at Matamata just over the hills from Rotorua. An hours scenic drive brings you to the sheep farm selected by Peter Jackson for his movie masterpieces. A guided tour from enthusiastic guides will bring to life the scenes from these box office hits. See 44 hobbit holes, the Mill and Double Arch Bridge, the Party Tree and visit the Green Dragon Pub where you’ll receive a complementary Hobbit Ale and you can purchase lunch if you wish (own expense).

Day Three: Rotorua – Lake Taupo – Wellington
This morning you will depart Rotorua, travelling south to New Zealand’s capital Wellington. Travelling south initially through native forest and heavily bushed hills to Lake Taupo, New Zealand’s largest lake. Then via the shores of Lake Taupo to the dry arid central plateau which is home of several active volcanoes. The volcanic cone shaped snow-capped mountains form a spectacular backdrop to this barren landscape. Prior to arriving in Wellington travel down the Kapiti Coast on the South-eastern tip of the North Island, here you will have great views of Cooks Strait, Kapiti Island and on a clear day the mountain ranges of the South Island.

Day Four: Wellington
This morning enjoy a comprehensive city sightseeing tour of Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city and home of Parliament. The city is nestled between a magnificent harbour and surrounded by a natural amphitheater of forest-clad hills. This 4 day tour concludes at the conclusion of your sightseeing tour.
