A five day independent tour departing Auckland daily and taking in most of the key tourism destination in the North Island of New Zealand. The tour visits the Bay of Islands, with a tour of the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, the historic township of Russell and a cruise to the famous 'hole in the rock'. Your day in Auckland includes a full day sightseeing with both a harbor cruise and admission to the Sky Tower. On day four travel to Rotorua, via Waitomo caves, with a guided tour of the glowworm caverns. Day five includes admission to the main attractions in Rotorua, including Te Puia, the Agrodome and Rainbow Springs as well as touring Hobbiton on your return journey to Auckland. The tour includes four nights 4 - 4.5 star accommodation, one night in Paihai, two nights in Auckland and one night in Rotorua.

Day One: Auckland – Bay of Islands

Depart Auckland travelling north via the Hibiscus Coast, with golden sand beaches, and Whangarei arriving in the beautiful township of Paihia, Bay of Islands. Tour the Waitangi Treaty Grounds the site of the historic treaty between the Maori and European pioneers. View a magnificent Maori meeting house and large war canoe. Remainder of the day at leisure to explore Paihia.

Day Two: Bay of Islands – Auckland

Today cruise to Cape Brett and Piercy Island and discover the Bay’s highlights from the water including abundant wildlife. Sea conditions permitting travel through the cavernous Hole in the Rock. Spot dolphins frolicking, seals and more. Returned to Russell for a sightseeing tour of this historic township, returning to Paihi with a mid-afternoon departure for Auckland.

Day Three: Auckland

A morning city tour of Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, boasting a beautiful harbour, some of the best beaches of the world and 49 dormant volcanoes. An afternoon 90 minute cruise of Waitemata Harbour will highlight city, the Harbour Bridge, Devonport and Rangitoto Island. The day concludes with Auckland’s Sky Tower offering spectacular views.

Day Four: Auckland – Waitomo – Rotorua

Depart Auckland by coach and travel through rich farmlands to Waitomo At Waitomo you will enjoy a guided tour of the Waitomo Caves including a boat ride through the caves into the famous Glowworm Grotto. From Waitomo you will continue onto Rotorua through the lush Waikato Plains, the Fitzgerald Glade.

Day Five: Rotorua – Hobbiton – Auckland

This morning visit Rotorua’s main attractions, included are Te Puia with a Maori Cultural Tour. Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve , location of the thermal valley with the famous Pohutu Geyser, and boiling mud pools. Rainbow Springs home of the famous New Zealand kiwi bird. Agrodome, with a tour of a working farm. Watch a sheep being shorn, hand-feed the animals and a sheep dog trial. Early afternoon depart for Hobbiton, a farm that has been transformed for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movie set. Tour fairytale landscapes of the Shire, on your movie set tour. See 44 hobbit holes, the Mill and double arch bridge, the party tree and visit the Green Dragon Inn. On departing Hobbiton your coach travels to Auckland where you will be transferred to your central city accommodation and at which point your tour concludes.
